The Akshaya Patra Foundation works to eradicate classroom hunger and facilitate childhood education by serving freshly cooked, nourishing lunches to 1.6 million school children across India every day, through our Food For Education Programme.
Millions of parents across India are faced with a decision no one should have to make; feed the family or send their child to school. When malnutrition is rife and starvation is a real possibility, education is not seen as a priority.
Akshaya Patra believes that these families can only lift themselves out of poverty through education. For every £10 donated, one child will receive a hot, nourishing school lunch every day for an entire year, encouraging them to attend school and providing the energy needed to concentrate on their studies.
Our UK Head Office supports our key Food For Education Programme which is operated within 11 states in India, by running events, fundraising challenges and campaigns across the UK.
We also run a School Adoption Programme whereby a whole school of children can be supported by fundraising. Lastly our One for One scheme has attracted a number of different corporates, restaurants and supporters who donate £1 per product or service sold towards children's school meals.
We are looking to recruit fundraising volunteers to help support us in our mission of serving 5 million children by 2020.
