Candela VR CIC

Volunteer Product Manager for VR EdTech Non-Profit

Available
Remote
1-3 hours / week
3-7 hours / week

Do you have product management experience and want to apply it to something meaningful? We're looking for a volunteer product manager to help shape the development of our VR physics education experience.

What will you be doing?

Candela VR is a volunteer-driven Community Interest Company using virtual reality to make physics accessible to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Our software team builds the VR experience; our outreach team delivers it in schools. This role sits between those two teams, making sure what we build serves the sessions well.

Working alongside our director and lead developer, you will have the opportunity to:

Product strategy and prioritisation:

  • Help maintain and prioritise the product roadmap, balancing technical feasibility with educational impact
  • Scope new features and content by understanding what the outreach team and students actually need from the experience
  • Ensure new VR content complements the existing programme structure and session flow
  • Help make pragmatic decisions about what to build next given our limited volunteer capacity

Execution and coordination:

  • Work with the lead developer to break priorities into manageable pieces of work
  • Help keep development on track: following up on progress, unblocking issues, and flagging when scope needs to change
  • Act as a bridge between the software and outreach teams so that feedback from sessions feeds back into product decisions
  • Support the team in working efficiently as volunteers with limited hours

What are we looking for?

  • Experience in product management, product ownership, or a similar coordination role.
  • An understanding of how to prioritise when resources are limited. You'll be helping a small volunteer team focus on what matters most.
  • Comfortable working across technical and non-technical teams. You don't need to code, but you should be able to have productive conversations with developers.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in writing, since the team works remotely.
  • Someone who can commit roughly 1–3 hours per week
  • Passion for education, equity in STEM, or making technology accessible to young people

Nice to have: experience with agile or lightweight delivery methods, familiarity with VR or EdTech, or experience working with volunteer teams.

What difference will you make?

By taking on this role, you'll be directly contributing to our goals to:

  • Educate students aged 14–18 on the real-world applications of physics using VR
  • Increase equitable access to super-curricular STEM activities in disadvantaged communities
  • Show young people that physics can lead to exciting careers beyond academia
