Volunteer Fundraiser
We're a new charity supporting children and young people in care across England. We're building our fundraising from scratch and need an experienced volunteer fundraiser to help us win grants, donations and corporate partnerships, so we can reach more young people.
What will you be doing?
You'll work directly with our founder and trustees to develop and deliver our fundraising. Depending on your strengths, that might mean researching and applying for grants from trusts and foundations, approaching companies for donations, sponsorship and in-kind support, or helping us write strong, persuasive cases for support. We already have groundwork in place, including a researched pipeline of funders and corporate targets and a set of pitch templates, so your job is to help turn that into real income rather than start from a blank page.
This is a flexible, mostly remote role, and we're happy to shape it around the time and skills you can offer. Because we work with children and young people, the role is subject to our safer-recruitment process, including references and a DBS check where appropriate, and we'll guide you through that.
What are we looking for?
We're looking for someone with experience of fundraising, bid-writing, sales, partnerships or a similar field, who can write clearly and persuasively and is comfortable approaching funders and companies. Direct charity fundraising experience is welcome but not essential. If you've built those skills in another setting and have the drive to apply them to a cause that matters, we'd love to hear from you.
Beyond the skills, the most important thing is the right attitude. Because we're a small, growing charity, we need someone who is organised and self-motivated, able to take initiative and work independently rather than wait to be directed, and genuinely moved by the situation of children and young people in care. Someone who treats this role as their own and takes pride in what it achieves will get the most out of it, and so will the young people we support.
Above all, reliability and commitment matter more to us than a perfect CV. We'd rather have someone dependable who believes in what we're doing than the most decorated fundraiser who can only half-commit.
What difference will you make?
Right now, Children We Care For is at the very start of its journey. We have the experience, the safeguarding and the projects ready to go, but reaching more young people depends entirely on income, and that's the gap this role fills.
As our volunteer fundraiser, you would directly shape what the charity is able to do. Every grant won and every partnership secured turns into something concrete for a child in care, whether that's a Welcome Box for a young person arriving at a new home, a mentor matched to someone who needs one, or a day out that lets a child simply enjoy being young. There is a clear, visible line between the work you do and the difference it makes.
Because we are small and growing, your impact would be unusually large. You wouldn't be one fundraiser among many in an established team. You would be helping build our fundraising function from the ground up, setting the foundations that allow us to grow from supporting young people locally to supporting them across England. The income you help bring in over the next year is what determines how many children we can reach, and how soon.
For the right person, this is a rare chance to see your skills translate straight into life chances for children who have had the toughest possible start.
Before you apply
When you apply, please send a short message telling us a little about yourself, why this cause matters to you, and the relevant experience or skills you'd bring. A CV or LinkedIn link is helpful but a few honest lines about your motivation matter just as much.
We'll aim to reply to every applicant within a week. If it looks like a good fit, the next step is a relaxed video or phone call with our founder to talk through the role and answer your questions. As we work with children and young people, any volunteer joining us will go through our safer-recruitment process, including references and a DBS check where appropriate, and we'll support you through that.
We're reviewing applications as they come in and would love to hear from you whenever you're ready.
