Visionary local charity in Gloucestershire providing respite breaks to people seeking sanctuary - especially those seeking asylum, refugees, and victims of trafficking and torture -  welcomes creative and committed Trustees to join our Board.

What will you be doing?

Our small Board of Trustees wishes to welcome creative individuals to develop the exciting potential of our activities. We're particularly looking for individuals who can contribute skills and experience in the following areas

  1. business, finance and trading
  2. legal, especially in relation to property ownership to guide us through the process of accepting and managing a significant property asset.
  3. property management
  4. personal experience of forced migration
  5. human resources to make sure we look after the safety and wellbeing of our guests, volunteers and paid staff
  6. refugee charity project development
  7. Charity governance

You don't have to have experience of all these areas: each trustee will contribute to two specific work areas so please let us know where your strengths and interests lie.

What are we looking for?

  1. a commitment to the vision, purpose and values of SB
  2. a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort
  3. integrity
  4. strategic vision
  5. independent judgement
  6. an ability to think creatively
  7. an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
  8. an ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to take decisions for the good of SB.
  9. Lived experience of forced migration

What difference will you make?

You will join an experienced group of women and men who will embrace your new ideas and insights to help us deliver our Mission, which is:

To enhance the wellbeing of people seeking sanctuary by providing a place of welcome, safety, rest and hope, for short breaks, day visits, and a range of activities;

To provide opportunities for contact, inclusion and engagement with the surrounding community and

To increase confidence and self-esteem amongst the otherwise largely excluded community of people seeking sanctuary by enabling people to develop and demonstrate their skills

Your skills and experience will help ensure that our charity operates safely, legally and in line with best practice and that our small team of paid staff and committed volunteers are supported, have the resources they need  and, along with our guests, have a positive experience through their involvement with Sanctuary Breaks.. Alongside regular Board meetings (held at Hill House, Amberley, just outside Stroud),there will be plenty of opportunity to take part in all Sanctuary Breaks' activities such as day trips with guests, shared meals, and fundraising events.
