As a local charity supporting those in unpaid caring roles we are looking for a trustee with a background in domiciliary and / or day care services who can take a lead in the development of two of our most exciting and high priority initiatives in these areas of provision.

What will you be doing?

As a new trustee you would have a key role in enabling Enfield Carers Centre (ECC) to achieve one of its main strategic priorities which is to sustain and develop two of its most recent income-generating initiatives. The first of these is a home care service offering high quality replacement care and respite breaks to families; the second is a brand-new day care centre opened this year offering a range of different activities.

We are therefore looking for someone to join our existing team of 6 Board trustees who would be able to contribute with their experience and knowledge in the fields of home and / or day care provision (preferably at a senior level) to the work already underway to progress and grow these two services whilst maintaining the high standards of quality currently in place.

As well as engaging generally as a trustee in the Board’s overall strategy and policy decision-making process you would also have a key role by contributing in the following areas:

  • Reviewing the local market for home and day care services and identifying any gaps or unmet needs that could be addressed by ECC
  • Advising on how both the home care and day care services can remain competitive and affordable whist maintaining high quality standards.
  • Assisting in the development of a marketing strategy to promote what is being offered by these services and to attract new uses.

You would be joining a Board whose existing trustees have between them a range of skills and experience from both the public and private sectors; who work together in a very collaborative, supportive and friendly way; and have established excellent working relationships with the senior management team.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with the relevant background (and preferably management experience at a senior level) in either the voluntary, statutory or private sectors who has been involved in the provision of domiciliary and/or day care services for groups of vulnerable people. This experience would include a good level of knowledge relating to the operational side of running this types of provision including the challenges and risks involved and the standards required to deliver good quality services.

You should also have the interpersonal and communication skills necessary to being able to work collaboratively as part of a team plus be committed to implementing ECC's stated values and mission as a charity.

It would also be helpful if you had some prior experience of being in a trustee or Board role and of the governance requirements involved for this.

What difference will you make?

As a trustee with background experience in the provision of domiciliary and / or day care services you will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to realising one of the charity's key strategic goals; namely by helping to shape the way in which these services can be delivered in the most effective way to those undertaking unpaid caring roles and relieving some of the pressures on them that this entails.

You would be joining a charity which has a clear vision of how it wishes to meet the needs of unpaid carers; which understands the vital contributions they make to society in undertaking these roles; and which acts to champion their "voice" collectively to ensure that these contributions are recognised and supported appropriately.
