What will you be doing?

Trustee (fundraising and grants lead) responsibilities:

  • playing a full part in the board of Trustees and sharing the responsibility of ensuring that we remain legally and ethically robust in our stated aim of 'working with others to provide emergency food and support to local people in crisis'
  • working alongside the treasurer and the rest of the board to plan what level of funds are required to be generated to ensure the effective running of the charity
  • working alongside the trustee board to ensure that available grants are sought and written with the purpose of meeting the charity’s vision and objectives
  • leading on the organisation of local fundraising opportunities to support the running of the charity, working alongside or supporting fellow Trustees and volunteers in their fundraising activities, including incorporating national Trussell Trust fundraising campaigns/events throughout the year
  • overseeing, with operational management support, the writing of high-quality grant applications that are in line with the charity’s vision and objectives
  • regularly communicating with the rest of the trustee board via trustee meetings or any other communication, any relevant information and/or developments regarding fund raising or grant applications.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A strong commitment to the vision, mission and values of Haywards Heath Foodbank, with an understanding of the important role trustees play in ensuring the charity is well governed and able to meet the needs of people experiencing financial hardship.
  • At least three years' experience or a keen interest in any of the following - fundraising, grant fundraising, trust and foundation fundraising, income generation, business development or a closely related field. You will have the knowledge and confidence to identify funding opportunities, contribute to or oversee high-quality grant applications, and help shape the charity's fundraising approach.
  • The ability to lead strategically on fundraising and grant matters as part of the Trustee Board. You will be comfortable working collaboratively with fellow trustees, volunteers and the operational team to develop fundraising opportunities, support fundraising activities, oversee grant applications, and keep the Board informed of funding opportunities, applications and outcomes.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work positively with trustees, volunteers, funders and community partners to help secure the long-term sustainability of the food bank.

What difference will you make?

By leading on fundraising and grant matters for the food bank, you will play a vital role in ensuring we can continue to provide practical support, hope and dignity to people in our local community facing financial hardship.

Your leadership will help secure the funding needed to sustain and develop our services, enabling the food bank to respond to increasing need, invest in new initiatives and support people beyond emergency food provision. You will also ensure the Trustee Board is kept informed of fundraising opportunities, grant applications and income trends, helping to shape strategic decisions and the long-term sustainability of the charity.

Every successful grant application and fundraising initiative will have a direct impact on the lives of local people, helping families put food on the table, reducing the stress of financial crisis and ensuring everyone who comes into contact with Haywards Heath Foodbank is treated with compassion, respect and dignity.

Your experience, insight and commitment will make a lasting difference, not only to the people we support today, but to the future resilience of the food bank itself. You will be helping to ensure that Haywards Heath Foodbank can continue to be there for our community whenever it is needed most.
