Rowan is an arts centre and forest school for adults with learning disabilities based in Cambridge. We are seeking a new trustee with experience in finance and business.

What will you be doing?

As a trustee with finance and business skills, you can help the board to oversee the current management of our finances, looking into investments, looking at risk management, budgeting and strategic planning.

What are we looking for?

Personal characteristics: 

  • A commitment to Rowan and its mission
  • A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to: Prepare for and attend Board meetings (usually 6 - 8 times a year which includes an extended strategy session) 
  • Attend some of our events through the year Liaise with members of the Senior Leadership Team on specific areas in which you have specialist knowledge or contacts
  • Good independent judgement and a willingness to speak your mind in a constructive fashion
  • Willingness to work collaboratively to find solutions to such difficulties as may arise

We are looking for someone one with experience in some (or all) of the following: 

  • A UK finance, accounting or business background
  • Experience of financial management, investment, risk management, budgeting and strategic financial planning
  • Experience in finance and investing
  • Attend the Finance Committee meetings (usually 2 a year).

What difference will you make?

Trustees will ensure that the proper management, governance and financial control of Rowan in accordance with its charitable objects and charity law, including: 

  • Ensuring that Rowan is carrying out its purposes for our student artists
  • Ensuring that Rowan complies with its governing documents, charity law, company law and another relevant legislation or regulations
  • Helping hold the CEO and senior team to account for Rowan’s performance, effectiveness and management of resources
  • Acting as an advocate for Rowan, acting in its best interests, including safeguarding Rowan’s good name and values
  • Contribute to the development of Rowan’s strategies.
