Trustee for Brain Tumour Support
Our Trustees play a vital role in shaping the future of Brain Tumour Support to help ensure that no-one faces a brain tumour diagnosis alone.
As a Trustee, you will help shape the charity's future and strengthen the support we provide today, while helping us build for tomorrow.
What will you be doing?
Every day, Brain Tumour Support walks alongside people facing one of life’s most devastating diagnoses. We provide practical, emotional and specialist support to brain tumour patients,
caregivers, family members and bereaved loved ones at some of the most difficult moments in their lives.
Our Trustees play a vital role in shaping the future of Brain Tumour Support, providing strategic leadership, strong governance, and collective accountability to help ensure that no one faces a brain tumour diagnosis alone.
Our Trustees are not involved in the day-to-day running of the charity. Instead, they provide guidance, support, and constructive challenge to help ensure the organisation remains compassionate, sustainable, ambitious, and impactful.

We are committed to building a Board that reflects a diverse range of skills, experiences, perspectives, and voices. By bringing together people with different professional backgrounds and lived experiences, we create better conversations, stronger challenge, and more meaningful outcomes for the individuals and families we support.
What are we looking for?
We welcome applications from a range of backgrounds, experience and specialisms. In particular at this time, we would welcome applications from those with:
- Large personal networks or professional contacts; a strong black book of philanthropic and funding opportunities we can explore together to support the growth and future of the charity
- Social work or clinical mental health experience; who can offer guidance, insight and advocacy for the increasing demand on our services of those in mental health crisis
- Clinical brain tumour experience: Clinicians and health care professionals who can provide vital clinical insights and advocacy within the wider NHS
- Senior level fundraising or income generation experience; to work alongside our experienced Fundraising Manager to develop voluntary led income streams
- Experience of developing and delivering strategic growth
- Passion for our mission and a commitment to improving the lives of those affected by brain tumours
- Excellent networking and relationship-building skills
- Previous trustee or senior leadership experience in the charity sector is desirable but not essential.
We are always seeking further diversity in our board, and welcome applications from all walks of life.
What difference will you make?
Our mission is rooted in compassion, connection and understanding. We know that a brain tumour impacts far more than physical health — it affects relationships, finances, mental wellbeing, identity and the future people imagined for themselves and their families.
More than 30,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with a brain tumour every year, 13,000 with a primary brain tumour and an estimated 18,000 with a metastatic brain tumour. Our support is freely available to anyone affected by any type or grade of brain tumour, primary or secondary, malignant or non-malignant. We are committed to reaching those who are not yet aware of the support we offer, while continually improving how we connect with and serve our patients and families.
We support individuals from across the UK, through a combination
of in-person and digital services, one-to-one work and group sessions. We offer specialist counselling, welfare benefits support, emotional and practical guidance. Our Support Professionals deliver face-to-face support groups across the South West, Wales and the Midlands. Alongside this regional presence, our online support groups, telephone and text services ensure that anyone can access support regardless of location or personal circumstances.
Our digital channels and social media platforms further extend this reach, helping us to connect with individuals and families who may not be in regular contact with their clinical teams or closely connected to local support networks and ensuring support is always within reach.
As a Trustee, you will help shape the future of a charity that combines empathy with ambition, ensuring our services remain sustainable, accessible and responsive to the growing needs of our community.
You will help us strengthen the support we provide today, while helping us build for tomorrow.
