Spitalfields Festival Limited (t/a Spitalfields Music)
Trustee
We are looking for trustees with philanthropic/artistic/corporate sector experiences to join our board.
Help us nourish the foundations of the classical music sector by fostering passion, nurturing talent, cultivating outstanding leadership and staging innovative performances.
What will you be doing?
Trustees meet formally four times per year for board meetings and can be asked to sit on other standing committees – such as the Finance & Legal, Programming or Environmental, Social & Governance committees - or task-related and time-limited groups. Board meetings are currently held early evening for up to ninety minutes, in person. We also hold an annual awayday, usually in November, and social events throughout the year.
We want trustees to become actively involved in the life of the charity, including through attendance at performances in our Spitalfields Music Festival (late June-mid July), and community events, by invitation where safeguarding allows. Trustees are also invited to mentor a Trainee Trustee through our buddying scheme.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for a trustee with first-hand experience of philanthropy – someone who has been involved in giving, attracting or overseeing philanthropic support at a senior level.
We are also looking for a trustee who has worked in an artistic capacity within the creative industries, either in the UK or internationally. This could be as a performer, a programmer, a composer, or another creative role.
Finally, we’re looking for a trustee with professional experience from outside of the arts industry. While our arts industry colleagues are deeply valued for their knowledge and expertise, we want to ensure we’re bringing insights and ideas from other sectors.
What difference will you make?
As a trustee with experience in philanthropy, you can help us to increase our fundraised income back to pre-pandemic levels, through a mix of regular individual giving, support from trusts & foundations, and major donors.
For trustees with artistic experience, we’re looking for someone who can support our Programming Committee, contribute to our long-term artistic strategy and champion the kind of creative risk-taking that we’re known for, while remaining true to our values and audiences.
And finally, a trustee with professional experience outside the arts industry will help us test assumptions, introduce different ways of thinking and apply learning from elsewhere to strengthen our governance, resilience and long-term sustainability.
