Treasurer
Friends of Lewes are looking for a Treasurer to assist the Charity in contributing to the preservation & enhancement of this special town.
What will you be doing?
Overall
- Oversee the financial affairs of the organisation and ensure they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice.
- Ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures are in place.
- Monitor and report on the financial health of the organisation.
- Oversee the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits
Specifically
- Society’s Financial Advisor
- Maintain Receipts & Payments Account and regularly reconcile to bank accounts
- Prepare Final Accounts and Annual Financial Report for Examination (Audit), submission to Executive Committee (EC) for approval and then adoption at AGM.
- Prepare Annual Budget for EC approval
- Prepare Financial Procedures for EC approval
- Prepare half-year’s Finance report for EC
- Review and make recommendations to the EC on requests for grant and donations
- Prepare half-yearly Projects report for EC on Projects and Grants. (This is a summary finance report which supplements the monthly progress reports made to the EC by the project managers.)
- Be responsible for the Society’s banking and investment arrangements and be the nominated link officer for the Society’s banker(s)
- Primus inter pares signatory on Society’s bank accounts
- Ensure creditors paid in timely manner
- Ensure income due is received and banked promptly
- Liaise with Membership Secretary to ensure membership subscriptions collected
- Arrange Society’s insurance
- In conjunction with the nominated budget holders, review new, and/continuation of trading activities (e.g. books, t-towels), sales prices and make recommendations to EC
- Support other officers (Chair, Secretary etc.) and trustees as required
What are we looking for?
- Good communication skills
- An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
- Financial qualification and experience in a financial role
- Experience or a broad understanding of charity finance
