Plateful Café is looking for a dedicated Treasurer to join our board and oversee the financial health of our organisation. You will work closely with other trustees and volunteers to ensure we remain legally compliant, financially transparent, and aligned with our mission.

As Treasurer, you’ll ensure that our financial systems are robust, our resources are well managed, and that financial information is clearly communicated across the charity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all financial affairs to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Support the preparation and presentation of budgets, accounts, and financial statements (balance sheet, cash flow, fundraising performance etc.)
  • Ensure proper records are kept and effective financial procedures are maintained (ie: Cheque signatories; Purchasing limits; Purchasing systems; Petty cash/ float; Others as appropriate)

     

  • Work closely with finance volunteers and supervise financial reporting and bookkeeping
  • Help lead the production of the annual budget and ensure it is approved by the board
  • Review and support fundraising applications and funding bids with accurate financial input

     

  • Act as a financial spokesperson for Plateful Café where needed
  • Assist with appointing and liaising with external auditors or examiners
  • Support financial planning, risk analysis, and policy development

     


 

What are we looking for?

We’re seeking someone with strong financial management experience, ideally in the voluntary or community sector, and a commitment to our values of inclusion, culture, and community.

You’ll likely bring:

  • Knowledge of charity finance and fundraising finance best practices
  • Bookkeeping or financial management experience (at least 1 year)
  • Confidence interpreting and presenting financial data to non-finance colleagues
  • Familiarity with cloud-based accounting tools (FreeAgent or similar preferred)
  • Experience supporting or managing finance teams remotely
  • A relevant diploma or higher education qualification (Finance, Accounting, or similar)
  • Good communication and collaborative working skills
