Strategic Fundraiser
Join a dynamic and innovative theatre charity to help raise funds for workshops and creative projects that empower young people and champion accessibility in Greek myth and drama.
What will you be doing?
We’re currently looking for someone to assist with investigating, identifying and applying to trusts and foundations to support the company’s vision of providing wider access for young people, particularly in relation to the further development and expansion of our Magic from Myth coding & storytelling workshops, prioritising young people with special educational needs. This is a role focused around research and communication, as well as submitting actual bids and creating a system by which funding bodies and applications can be easily tracked going forward. As such, fundraising remains a priority. An ideal candidate would be experienced in fundraising. They would be enterprising and adept at finding new companies/trusts, etc to approach, and able to record their findings effectively. This would ideally be done through the creation of a user-friendly system showing relevant deadlines and key details of specific submissions. They would need to have good copywriting skills and become familiar with the company’s work via their website, videos and possible live interaction via the company’s ongoing education work.
We’re passionate about reimagining Greek drama to place it at the service of telling modern stories and exploring modern issues, all while retaining the magic of myth. As such, we’re excited about working with candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds, both personal and professional to ensure a diverse and multi-disciplinary approach.
Actors of Dionysus is at a pivotal yet exciting time in working to refocus vision and values to speak to an increased focus on accessibility and education.
Candidates can work remotely but would connect via Zoom (and occasionally in person if required) with the Artistic Director and Education Officer to review applications. As such, they would need to be familiar with the company's work (we have plenty of online/digital examples of our work to view), have good copyrighting skills, be driven by a shared passion for accessibility and democratisation of artistic and classical education, along with the power it holds in finding and telling new stories - the guiding principle of our work.
What are we looking for?
An ideal candidate would be experienced in fundraising, particularly in the creative arts. They would be enterprising and adept at finding new companies/trusts, etc to approach, and able to record their findings effectively. This would ideally be done through the creation of a user-friendly system showing relevant deadlines and key details of specific submissions.
Candidates would need to keep clear and concise records of companies approached and spreadsheets to show deadlines and when submissions would need to be made. Candidates would work as a team with the Artistic Director and Education Officer to complete applications
Candidates would need to have experience of copyrighting, become familiar with the charity's work and be articulate and able to quickly adapt to different funding criteria that matches the charity's remit and mission. Candidates may need to work with our board of trustees to support our fundraising strategy of providing high quality educational workshops for all.
What difference will you make?
You will provide wider access for young people to ancient myth and drama including new and exciting interactive workshops. The impact of these workshops and performances has been tremendously exciting. We receive regular feedback and testimonials regarding the transformative effects of our work, both on an educational and production level, particularly in regions and schools which do not have easy access to classical or dramatic subjects. As well as expanding our education work we would like to deliver another programme of free workshops in state funded schools who would not otherwise be able to afford such enrichment activities. In order to offer this we need to secure external funding to cover the costs of running such workshops.
Looking to the future, this is an area that Actors of Dionysus is passionate about developing. However, we are not an Arts Council of England NPO (National Portfolio Organisation), so receive no regular funding. As such, securing external funding, and working alongside those with the skills and experience to ensure such funding is procured as efficiently and ethically as possible, is more important than ever.
In working with Actors of Dionysus to raise funds for growth and development, you would be helping us to transform the meaning of an artistic and Classical education, and further, what such an education can be made to do, allowing access to those who would not normally have the opportunity to engage. Through helping young people create ‘magic from myth’, we aspire to help them discover the magic in themselves.
Securing the right Fundraising Associate would enable us to achieve our goal and focus on our mission of creating 'magic from myth' by offering exciting and innovative educational work to young people all across the UK.
