Lewes History Group

Publicity officer

Closed
Hybrid
1-3 hours / week

This role aims to grow awareness of Lewes History Group and its events amongst non-members, in order to grow membership and increase engagement. This is done by publicizing talks, walks, books and events in printed and online local press media.

What will you be doing?

Every month

•    Obtain speakers’ contacts from the talks program manager well ahead of time and email them to obtain a short synopsis (one sentence), a longer synopsis (about 100-150 words) and a striking image.

•    Keep relevant committee members informed of the next month's talk details for use on our website, social media, talk ticketing and so on.

•    Submit event details to online what’s on pages and also email them to editors of other local media at the appropriate times.

•    Commission talk posters from our designer, then email a pdf to the list of members who put them up. Also print copies (paid for by LHG) and deliver to four places round town.

•    Keep the Lewes Tourist Information Office stocked with LHG brochures.

•    Attend monthly executive committee zoom meetings and send in a report beforehand listing any out of the ordinary comms activity since the previous meeting.

Periodically

•    Pitch article ideas to the likes of Lewes News and/or The Lewesian – say two per annum. To date, Our bulletin editor has produced most of these articles, usually reworking existing Bulletin pieces to the required word length & supplying a relevant photo or postcard.

•    Organise the brochure reprints and update the content each time. This means liaising with both printer and the designer.

What are we looking for?

Experience in the PR or marketing industry would be an advantage but not at all essential: more important is being organised & methodical.

Our committee is a friendly and well-balanced group with a wide set of skills and experience: someone who can further complement the committee would be very welcome.

What difference will you make?

Effective PR drives talks attendance, membership, and active involvement in local research. We have become a well-respected and valued local institution over our relatively short life (founded in 2009) and good PR has been a key driving factor for that.
