Project Support Assistant

What will you be doing?

Building capacity amongst healthcare professionals requires experienced professionals to share their clinical knowledge, transferable skills, and problem-solving experience.

The PSA  role is focused on the effective use of their knowledge and experience in working online with Yemeni and British/North American/European counterparts in developing health improvement at a population level.  

We need dedicated, conscientious, and most of all consistent volunteers who want to improve health inequalities across the world.

The projects that we have ongoing  include:

• Pre-hospital care
• Women's health 
• Oncology
• Family medicine / primary care 
• Nursing 
• Infection  
• Sepsis prevention 
• Public Health 

• Mental health 

   

What are we looking for?

An intellectually stimulating role, this PSA role requires the volunteer to have problem solving skills and understanding and analyzing different approaches from different contexts, and re-synthesizing these to a different context. A 3-year history of organizational and communication skills would be useful to have for the PSA role.  

It is important to have a commitment to long term projects in international development, and working with diverse teams. As per the Reach Volunteering guidelines, 3 years of experience of effective communication would be very useful.  

The PSA is embedded within clinical working groups and require experience of a flexible approach with dynamic goal setting and project implementation.  Working with senior colleagues from Yemen who may be attempting to work with little time and resources, you will aim for a pragmatic balance between ideal settings and real world solutions that will focus ultimately on patient betterment. 

What difference will you make?

You will be working in a team with senior healthcare workers from the UK and Yemen.  Our projects are focussed on capacity-building, and are very much long-term, and therefore short term results are unlikely to be explicit.  

You will know how to work in culturally-sensitive manner.  Good communication is vital.  Similarly, experience of healthcare and/or low-resource settings and/or deprivation would be helpful, but not essential.
