NeuroHive CIC

Non-Executive Director

Available
Remote
1-3 hours / week

Neurohive is seeking (voluntary) Non-Executive Directors with expertise in Business Development and Financial Management to help guide our next stage.
We support neurodivergent young people through innovative digital projects, including Funtime Games UK.

What will you be doing?

Non-Executive Director Opportunity

As a Non-Executive Director, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of Neurohive CIC and making a meaningful difference to the lives of neurodivergent young people.

We are a small, grassroots organisation at an exciting stage of development. To date, we have deliberately limited how widely we promote our work due to constraints in funding and capacity. As a result, we are not yet widely known, but we are now in a position where we want to change this and actively grow our visibility, reach, and impact.

We are also beginning to explore and develop opportunities for commissioned work, including potential contracts with Local Authorities in areas such as EOTAS (Education Other Than at School) and Alternative Provision. This represents a key part of our future growth strategy as we move towards a more sustainable and diversified funding model.

Our focus now is on strengthening our foundations so we can scale our provision responsibly and sustainably.

Our ambition is to build a resilient, well-governed organisation that can expand its reach while remaining values-led and community-focused.

As we move into this next phase, we are particularly seeking individuals with strong experience in business management, finance, and organisational growth within small or scaling organisations.

We are looking for Non-Executive Directors who can:

  • Provide strategic oversight and practical guidance on growing and diversifying income streams
  • Support the development of robust financial management, including cash flow forecasting and bookkeeping processes
  • Strengthen our financial planning and positioning for grant funding and commissioning opportunities
  • Contribute to sustainable business development, helping us expand our reach and impact as a not-for-profit organisation

Who this role is suited to

This role is particularly well suited to individuals who have experience working in, or supporting, small organisations, start-ups, or growing charities and social enterprises.

You will be comfortable operating in a hands-on environment where resources are limited, systems are still developing, and your input can directly shape how the organisation grows. You should also be confident working with a degree of ambiguity and contributing to the development of systems, processes, and structure from the ground up.

This role requires practical, grounded experience rather than purely strategic oversight from large, highly structured corporate environments. While we welcome applicants from a range of professional backgrounds, it may be less suited to those whose experience is solely within large organisations without exposure to small-scale, resource-constrained settings.

What are we looking for?

We are particularly interested in Non-Executive Directors with skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:

Financial leadership and sustainability
Strong experience in financial management within small or growing organisations, including budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and developing sustainable and diverse income streams. Experience supporting grant funding applications or commissioning processes (e.g. local authority contracts) would be highly valuable.

Business development and organisational growth
Proven experience in identifying and developing new opportunities for growth within a not-for-profit, social enterprise, or small business context. This may include building partnerships, developing new income streams, and supporting organisations to scale sustainably while maintaining their values and purpose.

Scaling small organisations / governance in practice
Experience working with or supporting small, founder-led organisations through periods of growth and transition, including strengthening governance, developing systems, and building organisational capacity in environments where resources are limited.

What we value as an organisation

At Neurohive CIC, we are values-led, community-focused, and grounded in lived experience. We care deeply about creating safe, inclusive spaces where neurodivergent young people feel understood, respected, and able to thrive.

We value individuals who:

  • Believe in ethical, inclusive, and socially responsible growth
  • Are comfortable working collaboratively in a small, developing organisation
  • Can bring both strategic thinking and a willingness to engage with practical realities
  • Respect and understand neurodivergence and the importance of accessible, safe spaces
  • Are open, reflective, and willing to contribute constructively within a diverse board environment

We are looking for people who share our commitment to purpose over profit, and who are motivated by the opportunity to help shape something meaningful from the ground up.

What difference will you make?

As outlined in this Non-Executive Director opportunity, Neurohive CIC is at a pivotal point in its journey. We are a small, grassroots organisation with a clear ambition: to grow sustainably, strengthen our foundations, and extend our reach so more neurodivergent young people can access safe, supportive digital spaces.

To achieve this, we must move forward with greater structure, resilience, and confidence in how we manage and grow the organisation.

As a Non-Executive Director, you will play a vital role in shaping that future. Your expertise will help strengthen Neurohive’s governance, financial stability, and long-term sustainability, ensuring that growth is not only possible, but responsible and well supported.

We are now entering a phase where we need to build stronger capability in business development, income diversification, and financial management. This includes developing clearer financial systems, improving forecasting and reporting, and strengthening our ability to secure both grant funding and commissioned opportunities such as EOTAS and Alternative Provision work with Local Authorities.

By bringing experienced, independent insight to our board, this role will help us evolve from founder-led growth into a more structured and resilient organisation, one that is equipped to scale its impact without losing its values or connection to the community it serves.

Ultimately, strong governance and financial stewardship will allow us to focus on what matters most: creating spaces where neurodivergent young people feel safe, understood, and empowered to build confidence, connection, and a genuine sense of belonging.
