The Kids Network

Mentor a child in North London and Change a Life!

Available
Onsite
1-3 hours / week

Give back to your community and volunteer with The Kids Network by becoming a positive role model for a local child.

What will you be doing?

  • Sign up to become a mentor with The Kids Network! You'll gain new skills and enhance your employability prospects whilst positively impacting children in your local community.
  • The Kids Network is looking for committed, fun and experienced volunteers to make a difference to the children of London.
  • Our structured mentoring programme supports 8-11 year olds with their social and emotional development before they transition into secondary school.
  • As a mentor, you will hold weekly one on one sessions of 1-3 hours. You will help to build confidence, resilience and help your mentee to manage feelings through a series of fun and positive experiences and activities.
  • The weekly sessions can be flexible between weekdays and weekends.
  • Volunteers have a budget of £35 per month to spend in sessions with their mentee. We are also able to cover travel expenses.
  • A DBS check is required but paid for by us.

Training & Support:

  • All volunteers will attend a day of training, including safeguarding, understanding what mentoring is and skills to bring to the role.
  • We also offer additional training throughout the year, with up to 30 hours of free training and development available.
  • Upon completion of the mentoring programme, Mentors will receive a Badge of Excellence Certificate in Child Led Mentoring.
  • We also have monthly mentor meet ups which provide continual support for the mentors.
  • Mentors will have a direct contact at the organisation, their Programme Manager (PM). PM's provide support, encouragement and advice throughout the whole year of your mentoring.

We run programmes in Westminster, Hammersmith & Fulham, Islington, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Brent, Lambeth, Camden, Hackney and Greenwich. Please apply if you live in or near to any of these boroughs!

What are we looking for?

We are looking for mentors who might have some of the following experience and skills: creativity, problem solving, leadership, strong interpersonal skills, caring, active listening, mentoring, teaching, youth work, or experience working with children with SEN.

What difference will you make?

Volunteering with The Kids Network has a powerful, lasting impact, not just on the children, but on volunteers too. By giving just a few hours a week, mentors help children build confidence, trust, and emotional resilience during a crucial stage of growing up. Children gain agency, emotional literacy and improvements in well being lasting well beyond the end of the mentoring relationship.

Many volunteers say the experience has changed their own perspective, improving their empathy, communication, and sense of connection to their community. Together, these one-to-one relationships create a ripple effect: stronger children, stronger communities, and a city where everyone has a place they belong.
