Marketing & Campaign Volunteer
Help shape the growth of a grassroots menstrual equity initiative through social media marketing, digital campaigning, and outreach strategy. We’re looking for a skilled volunteer to support audience growth, awareness campaigns, and community engagement as The Period Crate expands across Hull
What will you be doing?
The Period Crate is a Hull based grassroots initiative providing free menstrual products through publicly accessible community crates across the city. We independently stock, fund, and maintain all crate locations while developing partnerships, donation points, outreach projects, and educational initiatives focused on menstrual accessibility and equity.
We are currently seeking a volunteer with skills or experience in social media marketing, campaigning, communications, or fundraising strategy to help strengthen the project’s visibility and long term sustainability during a major period of growth.
The role will focus on helping improve audience engagement, public awareness, digital communications, and campaign development surrounding menstrual poverty, accessibility, and community support.
Key responsibilities may include:
- Supporting social media marketing strategy, primarily across Instagram
- Creating or advising on engaging digital content and campaigns
- Helping grow audience reach and community engagement
- Supporting communications surrounding fundraising and donation initiatives
- Assisting with awareness campaigns related to menstrual equity and accessibility
- Advising on branding consistency and messaging
- Supporting outreach communications with community organisations and businesses
- Helping identify opportunities for audience growth and long term engagement
The Period Crate is currently expanding crate locations across Hull alongside new donation points, educational resources, Menstrual Mail, care package initiatives, and community collaborations. The volunteer would play a meaningful role in helping communicate and support this growth.
This role is flexible and primarily remote, although optional in person involvement within Hull may be available for events, outreach, photography, or project support depending on volunteer interest and availability.
What are we looking for?
We are specifically seeking a volunteer with at least 3 years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
- social media marketing
- marketing strategy
- campaigning
- fundraising strategy
- audience growth and engagement
- communications or digital outreach
This role requires someone able to provide strategic and professional expertise to help strengthen The Period Crate’s communications, visibility, and long term sustainability as the project expands.
The ideal volunteer will have experience:
- developing or managing social media campaigns
- supporting organisational growth through marketing or outreach
- creating engagement strategies
- advising on branding and communications
- supporting fundraising or awareness campaigns
- analysing audience engagement and improving reach
Experience working with charities, grassroots organisations, community initiatives, or social impact projects would be beneficial but is not essential.
Alongside professional expertise, we are also looking for someone who is collaborative, proactive, creative, and genuinely passionate about accessibility, community care, and menstrual equity.
As The Period Crate is currently in a significant stage of growth, this role offers the opportunity to contribute strategically to the development of a rapidly expanding grassroots initiative with visible local impact.
What difference will you make?
As a completely grassroots and independently run initiative, strategic support surrounding marketing, campaigning, and communications would have a direct and meaningful impact on The Period Crate’s ability to grow sustainably and reach more people in need of support.
Improved social media strategy, outreach, and audience engagement would help us:
- increase public awareness of menstrual poverty and accessibility issues
- expand support for our crate network across Hull
- improve community engagement and visibility
- strengthen fundraising and donation campaigns
- build stronger partnerships with local organisations and businesses
- support long term sustainability and future expansion plans
This role is particularly important because The Period Crate is currently in a major stage of development, including new crate locations, donation points, community collaborations, and educational initiatives. Skilled volunteer support would help us establish stronger communications infrastructure while increasing the reach and impact of the project.
Ultimately, the volunteer’s contribution would help support a project working to ensure menstruation never becomes a barrier to education, wellbeing, confidence, or daily life.
Before you apply
We understand applicants may come from a range of professional, freelance, academic, or grassroots backgrounds, and we welcome both formal and transferable experience.
We’d particularly love applicants to share:
- relevant experience or skills in marketing, campaigning, communications, or fundraising
- examples of previous work, projects, social media accounts, or campaigns where possible
- why they are interested in The Period Crate and this role specifically
- any particular areas they would be interested in supporting
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with informal chats/interviews arranged flexibly online or in person where possible.
As The Period Crate is currently in a major stage of growth and expansion, this is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a developing grassroots initiative focused on accessibility, community care, and menstrual equity.
