We are seeking an enthusiastic Fundraising Trustee to join our eclectic Board of Trustees with experience in creating, developing and implementing Fundraising Strategies to help enhance our Charity's financial sustainability and further support local communities who need our services.

What will you be doing?

London Borough of Hounslow Swimming Club requires a Fundraising Trustee to play a strategic, leadership-focused role in securing the long-term sustainability, growth, and social impact of the club. This is not a hands-on operational fundraising role alone, but a governance and strategic position that strengthens the club’s financial resilience, partnerships, and community reach.

At a strategic level, the Fundraising Trustee will help shape and lead the club’s overall fundraising vision. This includes working with the Board and senior volunteers to develop a clear, realistic, and diversified fundraising strategy that aligns with the club’s mission, values, and community purpose. The trustee will help ensure that income generation is planned, sustainable, and impact-driven, rather than reactive or dependent on single funding sources.

A key responsibility will be diversifying income streams. The Fundraising Trustee will support the development of multiple funding routes, including grant funding, corporate sponsorship, community fundraising, business partnerships, trusts and foundations, philanthropic giving, and social enterprise opportunities. This diversification reduces financial risk and creates stability for long-term planning, allowing the club to invest confidently in programmes, facilities, coaching development, and inclusive access initiatives.

The trustee will also play a critical role in building and nurturing relationships. They will help the club form strong partnerships with local businesses, schools, health organisations, community groups, faith organisations, and corporate partners across the borough. These relationships will not be purely transactional but built on shared values, mutual benefit, and long-term collaboration, embedding the swimming club within the wider social and community infrastructure of Hounslow.

Governance and accountability are central to the role. The Fundraising Trustee will provide professional oversight of fundraising practices, ensuring they are ethical, transparent, compliant, and aligned with safeguarding, inclusion, and equality principles. They will help establish strong systems for monitoring income, evaluating impact, and reporting outcomes, building confidence among funders, families, partners, and stakeholders.

The Fundraising Trustee will also support capacity-building within the organisation. This includes helping volunteers, coaches, and Board members understand their role in supporting fundraising, developing a culture where income generation is a shared responsibility rather than the task of one individual. They will help strengthen skills, confidence, and systems so fundraising becomes embedded in the club’s structure.

Crucially, the role is about connecting funding to impact. The trustee will ensure that every fundraising activity supports clear social outcomes—such as increased access to swimming for disadvantaged families, inclusion for swimmers with additional needs, youth development, mental and physical wellbeing, and community cohesion. This keeps the club’s mission at the heart of all income generation.

In summary, London Borough of Hounslow Swimming Club needs a new Fundraising Trustee to provide strategic leadership, diversify income, strengthen partnerships, ensure ethical governance, build organisational capacity, and connect funding directly to social impact. The role is essential in securing a stable, sustainable future and enabling the club to grow as a trusted, inclusive, and community-embedded organisation serving the people of Hounslow.

What are we looking for?

  • Fundraising Expertise: Substantial experience in one or more fundraising disciplines, such as corporate partnerships, trust and foundation bids, individual giving, or legacy fundraising.
  • Strategic Planning: Proven ability to develop and implement fundraising strategies and, crucially, to track performance against those strategies.
  • Financial Acumen: Understanding of income and expenditure management, budgeting, and the ability to interpret financial reports to ensure the charity's financial health.
  • Business Development: Experience in identifying new opportunities for income generation.
  • Governance Knowledge: An understanding of charity law, regulatory requirements (including the Fundraising Regulator's standards), and risk management.
  • Senior Management Background: Experience working at a senior level in the charity or commercial sector is highly valued.

What difference will you make?

An experienced Fundraising Trustee will play a transformative role in strengthening the future of London Borough of Hounslow Swim Club by providing strategic leadership, financial resilience, and long-term sustainability. Their impact will go far beyond raising money; they will help shape how the club grows, develops, and serves its community.

Firstly, the Fundraising Trustee will help create financial stability. By developing a clear, diversified funding strategy, they will reduce reliance on single income sources such as membership fees or short-term grants. Through a balanced mix of grants, sponsorship, partnerships, community fundraising, and philanthropic support, the club will gain greater financial security. This stability allows the club to plan confidently for the future, invest in facilities, coaching, equipment, and inclusive programmes, and avoid crisis-driven decision-making.

Secondly, they will strengthen the club’s community and partnership networks. By building relationships with local businesses, schools, health organisations, community groups, and corporate partners, the trustee will embed the Swim Club more deeply into the social fabric of Hounslow. These partnerships will create opportunities for shared funding, joint programmes, sponsorship, and community initiatives that increase the club’s visibility, credibility, and reach across the borough.

The Fundraising Trustee will also enhance governance and professionalism. By providing oversight of fundraising strategy, ethical standards, and compliance, they will ensure that all income generation aligns with safeguarding, inclusion, and community values. This builds trust with parents, funders, partners, and stakeholders, strengthening the club’s reputation as a credible, accountable, and well-governed organisation.

Crucially, the trustee will help connect funding directly to impact. Rather than fundraising being driven by financial targets alone, they will ensure income generation is linked to clear social outcomes—such as increasing access to swimming for disadvantaged families, supporting swimmers with additional needs, promoting mental and physical wellbeing, and developing young people’s confidence and life skills. This keeps the club’s mission at the heart of all growth and development.

Finally, the Fundraising Trustee will build internal capacity. They will help develop a culture where fundraising is a shared responsibility, supporting trustees, volunteers, coaches, and families to play a role in income generation. This creates a stronger, more resilient organisation where sustainability is embedded in everyday practice.

In summary, the Fundraising Trustee will help London Borough of Hounslow Swim Club become financially secure, community-embedded, professionally governed, and impact-driven—ensuring the club not only survives, but thrives as an inclusive, trusted, and valued community organisation for generations to come.
