Creative Advisory Board member

0-5 hours / month

Iconic Steps are aiming to put in place an advisory board to help guide the next phase of growth of our commercial video and visual content production service.

What will you be doing?

The Creative Advisory Board is a new initiative which we anticipate will have no more than six members, including the CEO. At this stage we are looking for a 12-month commitment from members, and we anticipate holding meetings every two months (to be agreed) for two hours, at Iconic Steps [3Space International House, London SW9 7QD] or (currently) by video conference.

We anticipate that any additional time commitment will vary month to month depending on projects and pitches being delivered by the production service. Towards the end of the 12-month period we will review the status of the Board and agree on its status going forward.

Responsibilities of a Creative Advisory Board member

  1. To share knowledge and experience on the best way for the video/visual content production service to move forward.
  2. To provide practical input, guidance and feedback on creative pitches and production work.
  3. To work with Iconic Steps production crew to assess quality of output, skills gaps and potential for development of crew members.
  4. To demonstrate Iconic Steps commitment to equality and diversity in all decisions made and in personal conduct.
  5. To act in the best interests of Iconic Steps and to deal appropriately with confidential information.
  6. To act as an ambassador for Iconic Steps.

What are we looking for?

We have identified the need to recruit advisory board members with either a creative background in the development or production of video or visual content, and/or a background in managing a production service, to be able to guide the organisation and support the CEO through the growth of Iconic Steps production service.

Since piloting the service in 2019 we have worked with clients including Lambeth Council, the British Council, and OneTech, and are looking to grow our client base but also create more creative content that represents or gives a voice to the young people Iconic Steps supports.

We are looking for members who can plug the gaps in knowledge in the staff team and production crew, as well as providing practical support; whether that be facilitating training, supporting with pitching, or introductions to new clients as our commercial business begins to grow. You tell us, how do you think you could help?

To be effective as an Advisory Board member you will need to be able to demonstrate the competencies set out below. We can provide training to help you develop in the areas in which you feel less confident.

  1. An empathy with Iconic Steps, its roots, mission, values and ethos
  2. Ability to think creatively and apply this to the challenges and problems encountered by the organisation
  3. Willingness to speak their mind whilst maintaining tact and diplomacy
  4. Ability to work effectively as a member of the diverse team
  5. Adhere to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership
  6. Strategic vision
  7. Understanding of the principles and practice of equality and diversity

Our wish list of skills/expertise is wide ranging, we are looking to appoint a diverse group of members with a range of experience so the number of members appointed will depend on the applications.

Iconic Steps has a small executive team, so the commitment and input from the Advisory Board members is crucial to our ongoing development and growth.

What difference will you make?

By joining the Iconic Steps Board you’ll be contributing to:

  • Growing an innovative small business with a compelling social mission
  • Developing the next generation of filmmakers and media professionals
  • Helping deliver innovative solutions to youth unemployment
  • Supporting young people to create sustainable careers that actively contribute to the UK economy
