Would you like to make a real difference to London’s rivers and waterways? London Waterkeeper is looking for a Secretary to join our Board. This is an exciting opportunity to join a small growing charity, which is part of a global network.

What will you be doing?

About You:

You’re passionate about protecting London’s rivers and waterways. You're have at least three years experience in taking minutes and arranging meetings in a professional setting. You’re highly organised, with excellent written and IT skills. You’re an excellent communicator, and work well in a team. You’re flexible and able to adapt quickly and react positively to the charity’s needs and any changes in strategy. 

This is an unpaid, voluntary role.

 

About Us:

London Waterkeeper was set up by our CEO Theo Thomas in 2014 to defend rivers and challenge polluters. 

We want rivers in parks that flow free and healthy, homes that send their waste water only to sewage works, and clean, efficient industries that abide by all environmental laws. Only then will we have thriving rivers in our capital city.

London Waterkeeper is a member of Waterkeeper Alliance, a global federation working for fishable, drinkable and swimmable water. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organise and minute the monthly Trustee board meetings (usually held via Zoom video conferencing) 
  • Set meeting dates and times, and ensure all Trustees are aware of them
  • Circulate an agenda prior to the meeting
  • Take minutes at any Trustees/informal meeting
  • Include Action Points in the minutes and monitor their implementation 
  • Edit minutes and distribute to Trustees
  • Ensure all meetings are quorate
  • Ensure all necessary documentation is sent to the Charity Commission within the deadlines set
  • Confirm what decisions have been made and monitor their implementation
     

What are we looking for?

 

  • Passionate about London’s rivers and waterways 
  • Knowledge of water pollution issues would be an asset
  • Demonstrable experience as a Trustee or Committee Secretary 
  • Skilled in charity governance - and understand the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
  • Willingness and ability to devote the necessary time and effort to meet the responsibilities of the post
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written, IT and organisational skills
  • At least three years profgessional experience in an organisational role, that involves taking minutes and organising meetings
  • Skilled in strategic development and planning
  • Based in or near London
