Chair of Trustees
As a Chair, you will help shape and oversee the charity’s strategy, governance, and key projects, ensuring sustainable and effective delivery of our 2025–27 Strategy. You will maintain an effective relationship with the CEO and lead the Board.
What will you be doing?
We are currently in the process of seeking a new Chair in order to support our mission to open a unique independent school for neurodivergent young people within the next few years. The Chair and their skills will play a crucial role in the successful implementation of our strategy and preparing the foundations on which we can launch the school. The Chair will be expected to lead and engage actively with Board discussions and also to coordinate our working groups that focus on specific elements of the organisations operations including governance, safeguarding, education, finance and HR.
You will provide constructive challenge, strategic guidance and leadership to the CEO and senior leadership team, while championing the mission and values of More Education externally.

Essential
Commitment to More Education’s mission, values, and aims. Strategic thinker with sound judgment and collaborative skills. Willingness to dedicate time and energy to Board and working group activities.
Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the Nolan Principles of Public Life.
Experience of charity governance and in leadership roles.
Experience or skills in one or more of: legal, project management, HR, finance, marketing, fundraising, education, safeguarding. Prior board or governance experience.
Understanding of charity operations, education sector, or neurodiversity initiatives.
We are looking for a chair who is a professional in their area with three or more years experience in their field that they can bring to our Board. As we move towards opening a school, developing and expanding our Board's capacity, experience and capabilities is crucial.

Governance & Strategy

Contribute to the development and oversight of More Education’s strategic direction.
Monitor organisational performance against the 2025–27 Strategy.
Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations.
Participate in trustee working groups covering governance, HR, safeguarding, finance, and education. -
Project Oversight & Risk Management
Advise on project planning and implementation, including school development and Community Hub initiatives.
Support risk management strategies and help ensure robust internal controls.
Provide insight on HR, safeguarding, and organisational policies. -
Advocacy & Partnerships
Act as an ambassador for More Education, promoting its work and values.
Support fundraising, networking, and partnership-building where relevant. -
Leadership
Act as a critical and confidential friend and line manager for the CEO, managing their employment matters and supporting them in their role.
