Chair
This is an exciting opportunity to provide strategic leadership and help shape POW Nottingham’s future. The new Chair will play a key role in guiding the organisation through its next phase of development and success.
What will you be doing?
The Chair provides strategic leadership to the Board, ensuring effective governance, strong direction, and a clear focus on POW Nottingham’s mission and future growth. They will foster an inclusive and supportive Board culture, work closely with the Chief Executive to deliver strategy and organisational priorities, and act as a visible ambassador for the charity.
This pivotal role includes leading Board meetings and the AGM, overseeing Chief Executive support and development, strengthening Board recruitment and succession, and helping to build a diverse and effective Trustee team. Our Chair will also play a key role in managing governance, addressing challenges or conflict, and guiding the organisation through future opportunities, funding challenges, and key appointments.
What are we looking for?
We are seeking an experienced Trustee (Chair experience desirable but not essential) who can contribute strategic leadership and work closely with the Board and Chief Executive to shape and deliver the organisation’s vision. The ideal candidate will bring experience in governance or organisational development, strong interpersonal and facilitation skills, and a collaborative, inclusive approach to leadership.
A strong commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the rights of sex workers is essential, including supporting sex workers’ right to self-determination, whether they choose to remain in or leave sex work. You should also be willing to promote the organisation’s work, engage with emerging issues in a small charity environment, and be responsive and flexible when needed.
Knowledge of the Nottingham area and a shared commitment to empowering a diverse community are important, along with the ability to contribute positively to a values-led Board.
Our Commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
We believe that diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences make our organisation stronger and more effective. We are dedicated to building an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered — and where intersecting identities are recognised and represented at every level, including our Trustee Board. We particularly welcome applications from people of colour, young people, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those with lived experience of socio economic inequality. We are looking for Trustees who share our passion for equity, diversity, and inclusion, and who will help embed these values across all areas of our work.
We are committed to an accessible recruitment process and are happy to make reasonable adjustments — please don't hesitate to let us know what support you need.
What difference will you make?
This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute your skills, time, and passion to an organisation making a real difference, while developing your own experience in governance and leadership. As Chair, you will work alongside staff, volunteers, and fellow Trustees to deliver life-changing support services, strengthen the organisation’s future, and help implement its strategic direction.
You will play an active role in shaping a positive and inclusive Board culture, ensuring high-quality, impactful services, and supporting efforts to challenge stigma around adult entertainment and sex work. This is an opportunity to help grow a strong, engaged community of supporters, contribute to effective governance, and support a well-run, sustainable organisation delivering lasting change for its beneficiaries.
