Board Members
Warwick Folk Festival is planning for 2021. We need a few more board members to help us deliver the best festival yet in our lovely new grounds next to Warwick Castle.
What will you be doing?
As a board member, you will be able to use valuable skills and experience to have a direct influence over the work of the Festival Management Team, shaping our strategy and providing support to the FMT.
We need to manage the financial challenges posed by us not being able to hold the festival in 2020 and to plan for a new set of social norms.
We would like to recruit three board members to cover the core skills:
- Marketing
- Finance
- Strategy
Description
- With other board members, set the policies, strategic objectives and annual budgets of WFF, (with input from the Festival Management Team)
- Approve and monitor operational and financial plans from the FMT to achieve the strategic objectives within agreed policies and budgets
- Attend 5 – 8 meetings per year with possible further meetings if circumstances dictate.
- Participate in other planning and strategic activities as required e.g. planning sessions, workshops
- Manage WFF resources responsibly by ensuring that the appropriate financial controls and reporting mechanisms are in place and that risks are identified and managed
- Ensure WFF meets its legal responsibilities
- Be accountable for the operation of WFF
What are we looking for?
We wish to recruit people from a variety of backgrounds, with various life experiences to expand and reinforce the skills of the existing board members, specifically in the following areas:
- Financial management
- Marketing
- Organisational Strategic planning
Experience in the following would also be useful:
- Folk music/arts
- Fundraising
- Company management
- Community engagement
- Change Management
- Legal (esp contracts)
The type of people we are looking for:
- Are well organised and willing to commit to and prepare for meetings, being ready to engage and ask questions
- Can act as part of a team, working collaboratively and establishing good working relationships but also able to debate issues and question colleagues in a constructive and appropriate way.
- Able to analyse information with objectivity and impartiality
- Can recognise and deal with potential conflicts of interest if they arise
- Communicate with honesty and openness and can contribute to and facilitate discussions to develop ideas
- Possibly - but not necessarily - have experience of good governance obtained in the private, public or voluntary sectors
What difference will you make?
2019 was the 40th Warwick Folk Festival and after our enforced break in 2020, 2021 sees an exciting change from a long standing school based venue to a new greenfield site bringing many opportunities and challenges.
In the next year we will also be looking to recruit a new Artistic Manager as well as a Festival Operations Manager as our founding Festival Director retires.
Two of our board members retired this year leaving us with a need for a renewed board to support future opportunities and challenges.
The festival is delivered by a Festival Management Team (FMT) overseen by a board of legally designated Directors of Warwick Folk Festival as a Company Limited by Guarantee.
