We are looking for a Chair of Trustees to lead our board at an exciting time. With five years of secured funding, you will help shape our future and grow our impact for autistic children, young people and their families across West Dorset.

What will you be doing?

Our board is made up of a small group of committed trustees who have supported ASCape’s growth from a new community group into a registered charity. As we continue to develop, we are now looking for a Chair to lead the board and help shape our next phase.

Since being founded in 2018, ASCape has grown to support over 200 children and young people across West Dorset. With secure funding in place for the next five years, we are in a strong position to focus on long-term planning and sustainable growth.

As Chair of Trustees, you will lead the board, ensuring meetings are well-run and focused, and that trustees are supported to contribute effectively. You will work closely with senior staff to guide the charity’s strategic direction.

You will also support the board to strengthen governance and ensure the organisation continues to grow in a structured and sustainable way.

This is an exciting time to join ASCape, with the opportunity to build on strong foundations, shape future strategy, and play a key role in increasing our impact across the local community.

What are we looking for?

ASCape is a small organisation and you will be part of a dedicated team of trustees and staff committed to improving the lives of autistic and socially anxious children and young people in West Dorset.

We are particularly keen to hear from people with experience of charity or non-profit leadership, and ideally some experience of chairing boards or leading teams.

We are looking for someone who can bring:

  • A strong commitment to ASCape’s mission and values
  • The ability to lead and support a small board, encouraging collaboration and clear decision-making
  • Strategic thinking and good judgement
  • Strong communication skills, with the confidence to engage with a range of people
  • Integrity, tact and diplomacy
  • The time and commitment needed to carry out the role effectively

What difference will you make?

Our board plays an important role in guiding our strategic direction and supporting the charity as it continues to grow. With secure funding in place for the next five years, we are in a strong position to focus on long-term planning, strengthening our structure, and extending our reach.

As Chair, your leadership will help ensure the board is effective, focused and working together to make clear decisions. You will play a key role in shaping and delivering our strategic plan, supporting sustainable growth, and ensuring we continue to meet the needs of the children and families we support.

This role will help us build on our existing foundations, increase our impact across West Dorset.
