Article Readers Required to Make Our Website More Accessible
Seeking a few confident, clearly spoken, engaging speakers to read and record all of the articles in our news feed, so they are more accessible to people with visual impairment. All ages, genders and regional accents, welcome!
What will you be doing?
Word Forest is on a mission to make our website and all of our news items as accessible as possible.
We post one or two articles a week, they're usually a few hundred words long and we have a long archive of very interesting pieces.
Ideally, we'd love our team of audio stars to start by recording the most recent stories and to work their way back over time.
It would also be terrific if they could perform the same task with our website too, in due course.
We are looking for a diverse range of voices and experts in improving website accessibility that can spread the word through audio that has the human touch. How wonderful it would be for people to be able to 'hear' what we do in an engaging way.
I am hoping this role would appeal to people involved in radio / the arts / performing, but that's not a prerequisite. As long as you have a warm and inviting voice and the ability to record high quality audio, we'll be delighted to hear from you!
What are we looking for?
We would love to hear from anyone interested but especially those who have:
- expertise in improving website accessibility
- fantastic spoken communication
- enthusiasm and animation in delivering audio
- good recording equipment
What difference will you make?
The impact you'll have is absolutely enormous!
Personally, I'm just recovering from 8 months of serious visual impairment. Looking at a computer screen was a complete nightmare most of the time - how amazing it would have been if I could have just clicked a button and heard somebody tell me all about it.
