Would you like to apply your professional experience in a meaningful volunteer role to launch young people for life?

All while enhancing your skills, boosting your self-esteem and meeting new people?

Sea Cadets Harlow invites you to join our unit management team!

What will you be doing?

We’re looking for Trustees to join our Unit Management Team and help us with administration, marketing, fundraising and grant writing. Join our team and support the UMT chair to manage a safe, effective, and successful sea cadet unit.

  • Support the UMT in ensuring all unit activities and matters comply with appropriate regulations and Marine Society and Sea Cadet (MSSC) policies.
  • Support the unit’s fundraising efforts.
  • Ensuring that all young people and instructors at the unit are engaged in fun and safe activities.
  • Attend a regular UMT meeting – usually one hour, monthly or bi-monthly, on a weekday evening.

There are free training courses available for you to develop new skills, boost your CV and support you in this role.

What are we looking for?

Previous trustee experience is helpful, although having the right attitude and a passion for improving the lives of young people are the most important things! If you think the person specification below sounds like you, then please get in touch:

  • You are reliable, honest and trustworthy.
  • You are a good communicator.
  • You enjoy working as part of a team.
  • You have three years or more professional experience in positions with skills or knowledge such as:
  • Fundraising, grant writing, or running events;
  • Public relations;
  • Administrative experience;
  • Marketing and social media management.
  • You are available for monthly/bimonthly weekday evening meetings.

What difference will you make?

As an independent charity, recruiting skilled and passionate volunteers to join our team is vital to our mission of inspiring young people to achieve their potential through challenge and nautical adventure, guided by the customs and traditions of today’s Royal Navy.

Your experience will be invaluable to us as we grow our charity to offer even more young people the Sea Cadets experience!

We rely on subscriptions, grants and donations to continue the work we do with local young people so the experience and skills you bring to this role will leave a lasting impact for years to come!

Before you apply

  • Please apply through Reach in the first instance.
  • We encourage prospective volunteers to arrange an informal discussion about the role.
  • You may also wish to visit the unit, to meet the team and learn what being a Sea Cadet is all about!
  • Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete our additional application form.
  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo a DBS check (at no charge to you) and complete some short training as part of your induction (including in Safeguarding; Equity, Diversion and Inclusion; Health & Safety; and Data Protection).
  • We are recruiting on a rolling basis, so expect to hear from us soon. If you have not heard from us within 14 days, please reach out to the Growth and Development team.
