I have recently retired from a career as Company Secretary for commercial companies and charities, including 11 years with Marie Curie. In these roles I gained a good understanding of the responsibilities of and interaction between management and Directors/Trustees. I was responsible for advising the Boards, individual Directors/Trustees and staff on laws and best practice affecting the operation of companies and charities. I was also responsible for compliance with company, charity and other commercial laws. This included helping to devise novel but legal fundraising projects, including obtaining pro bono legal advice from one of the world’s major law firms. I also have a great deal of experience of strategic and policy reviews, risk management and data protection/information governance. I am very familiar with the changes recently introduced by the General Data Protection Regulation and their impact on charities. My CV lists in more detail the various areas for which I have been responsible or involved.
I am looking to use my knowledge and experience as a Trustee of a significant charity. My preferred areas are nature, conservation, children, dementia, mental illness and general health.
