No more than 3 hrs/wk for an on-going role. Projects needing more time for short periods would also be fine. Prefer working hours.
I am a Human Resources Director with over 30 years' experience working in different industry sectors (telecommunications, nuclear, manufacturing, NHS, arts), and took the decision to retire from full-time employment at Sotheby's in 2015, although I have since continued to undertake HR project work. I am analytical by nature, and enjoy situations that require me to assess data, identify root causes, balance different views or information, and develop and deliver practical solutions to a deadline.
I enjoy the challenge of finding ways to communicate complex ideas to meet the demands of different audiences. My primary areas of HR interest are the development and implementation of HR strategy, policies and procedures that respond to changing business requirements and opportunities. Performance management, learning & development, recognition and reward (including pensions), employee engagement and communications. That said, my previous roles have required me to deliver across all HR activities, so I'm receptive to other needs.
I have been an independent member of the Board of Governors of Arts University Bournemouth since 2013, where I am the Senior Independent Governor and Chair of the Human Resources Committee. I have also been a member of the Audit & Risk committee and Chair of the Senior Staff Remuneration Committee. My work as a governor has required the transition from "doer" to "challenger and supporter", but I believe my background and skills have enabled me to make a positive contribution to strategic planning at the university, particularly as it relates to HR.
Since early 2018, I have been a Trustee of Sight Advice South Lakes, a charity working to support people with visual impairment throughout the South Lakes Region.
I am very interested in how students transition from the learning environment to employment, and have developed and run both school and university-based job seeking workshops and one-to-one interview practice.
