About me

Non-Executive Director  / Trustee and business consultant with ten years of broad experience of working in the voluntary sector . Currently active as both a trustee of a charity in the care sector ( approx. £2.5m turnover  and 200 employees and volunteers) and as a volunteer business consultant with a third sector organisation which provides consulting support to not-for-profit organisations.  The latter role has included working with diverse smaller charities with limited resources.

Typically the specific skills deployed in both trustee and consulting roles include financial and commercial capabilities , strategy development and project management . The latter two have featured specifically in supporting organisations tackling business transformation challenges and /or governance reviews.

This breadth of capabilities draws upon a long corporate career with a major oil company,  which provided the opportunity to work in different roles and functions.  Following early retirement, further experience at a senior level was gained in diverse roles as an Interim Manager , both as Managing Director of a plastics manufacturer,  and as Programme Director of a high profile technology procurement programme for HMG .

Going forward,  I would be happy to look at NED or trustee opportunities, or perhaps short term project work which would make good use of my skills and experience in a volunteering role. 

What am I looking for

Project work and/or a formal trustee role which makes good use of my skills and expertise. As examples, I have previously provided support to charities on 

  • strategy development and implementation
  • organisational development and change 
  • governance 
  • financial management, e.g. pricing and costs controls

 

In the context of a trustee role, I believe my contribution would be most valuable to organisations of some scale in terms of numbers of staff /volunteers and financial turnover.
