I have worked as a Managing Director and Partnership Development Manager since I have been in the UK (I am an Australian citizen married to a lovely English lady). A significant part of this work over the past 7 years has involved running the National Citizens Service in Hampshire which has volunteering at its core. I have seen the impact engagement has on recipients and participants and, with time on my hands, feel that I have the ability to value add in many areas as a volunteer. Having had the privilege of running the NCS programme one of our core aims and values was to ensure the it was truly inclusive. Our summer 2019 programme resulted in 13% of participants coming from special needs schools and we saw, through the opportunity they had to be involved, a significant change in them but also an invaluable wider effect on school staff and parents.
Managing NCS ensured development of many skills including
* problem solving
* change management
* financial management
* problem solving
I am interested in continuing to give back to the community. We no longer run NCS, having withdrawn due to unfavourable changes in central contracts and our previous managers going into administration owing us money. I am excited to volunteer because I know that by giving time not only can I have a positive impact in the community but achieve positive outcomes for myself.
I am open to all sorts of settings and opportunities. My experience lies in working in and through education although the NCS programmes bought us into contact with many community based small and large charities doing fantastic work. I do have a particular interest in ensuring that young people with special needs or in special need settings get equal opportunities and consideration in life. I would relish working with small and large organisations to either maximise their potential, grow their services, or support them in ny way I could.
