About me

I am a Cambridge graduate with a BA Hons in Economics and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW)  with Arthur Andersen in the 1980’s with over 8 years’ experience in Audit and Accounting. In 2000 I developed my business skills with an MBA from London Business School and have had a successful career as a Business / Project Manager within premier banking and fund management firms in the City over the last 20 years.

However, couple of years ago, I decided on a transition to reduce my project workload and seek a portfolio of roles both paid and voluntary. So I have the time to commit to a voluntary role for 2-5 days a month .I live in Northwood Middlesex.

My role as a successful Business/ Project Manager required strong analytical and communication skills, ability to get on with and influence key stakeholders at all levels, be alert to risks and issues, monitor costs against budgets and manage large financial budgets to ensure that projects were delivered on time and cost.  As part of the Project role I regularly led Executive Committee meetings which had senior representation including Corporate Board members.

I have had experience of working with Charities and was a Treasurer for Joint Council for Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI) a national organisation fighting for the rights of refugees and asylum seekers in the late 1980’s for over 8 years. As a Treasurer I had to Chair the Finance Committee, provide oversight of finances through appropriate monthly management accounts, ensure compliance with Accounting Standards and Policies and present the annual finance report at the AGM.

I am aware that I needed to update myself with more recent charity finance and accounting knowledge so I attended the Charity Conference organised by the ICAEW in summer 2019. It also provided a refresher on the broader trustee responsibilities around good governance, legal responsibilities and reporting requirements including around reserves and segregation of funds.

As part of my community involvement with children I am an Ambassador for a financial education charity (RedStart) which has the aim of delivering financial education through one-day workshops to Years 5/6 in Primary Schools. I took part in a number last year and have scheduled further workshops at my local schools for the coming summer term.

What am I looking for

Charities working in health, education and international development with a global reach including third world countries would be of particular interest.
