About me

Semi-retired senior executive working at or near Board level mainly as an HR Business-Partner, with in-depth national and international experience of planning and executing all aspects of HR strategy against business/change management needs; with proven "hands-on" competence in effectively and pragmatically leading and delivering talent management and development programmes, gained primarily within fast moving international sales and services organisations, including IT, Finance and Professional Services sectors, but with significant exposure to Public Sector and Not-for-Profit environments. Expertise embracing general management dimensions of start-ups/SMEs, M&A, re-engineering/cost-reduction and turnaround situations as well as larger corporate enterprises. An entrepreneurial manager of people and resources, or individual contributor, with a full appreciation of best practice, corporate operations and programme management. Experienced interim all-in-one process manager or consultant, dealing in transformational situations, or equally running HR operations during transition, change or maternity leave. Comfortable in multi-cultural, international environments. Career founded on extensive management consultancy.

I was a Board Director and Acting Chair of Finance at the John Townsend Trust, and I was obliged to put the trust into Administration. I joined the John Townsend Trust (an educational charity which operated The Royal School for Deaf Children Margate along with Westgate College for Deaf People) in June 2015 and commenced a financial/organisational review of the trust, but it was clear the school was at risk of closure unless a long term funding solution could be found. This proved to be the case when combined with an horrendous ‘abuse’ scandal. I continue doing volunteer/pro bono charity work in Kent, and am currently a trustee of the Kent and Medway Charity Team.

At a high level, I have extensive experience of working with enterprises large and small, growing and shaping them around a business plan, sales growth and providing leadership. Management consulting experience starting in the 1980s as well as line management and then own company/interim.

I continued until last year to be a trustee and adviser to various charities based in Buckinghamshire in my ‘spare’ time. I say spare time….but actually very hard work. I was also an NHS governor with Oxford Health (mental health trust) as well as a member of the Mental Health Partnership Board. As a trustee of charities, I was involved with mental illness/learning disabilities, and disadvantaged/disengaged young people; in particular, Street Dreams (High Wycombe charity), Youth Concern (Aylesbury), Vana Therapeutic Farm Trust (Bicester) and BuDs (the Bucks disability umbrella group). I haven’t done paid work for a while out of choice.

What am I looking for

What am I looking for? To be part of or associated with an organisation which provides support, rehabilitation and activities for people with mental health and/or learning disabilities. I am also very committed to helping young people ‘recover’ from a poor start in life whether educational, economic/social or mental, through skills development and providing a helping hand or safe place to go. Charity trustee or pro bono adviser but I do volunteer and turn out for events and activities.
