About me

My experience combines marketing management, advertising/brand planning, internal communications, digital, media/communications and fundraising.

I have worked in all three sectors of the economy – private, public and not-for-profits – in areas as diverse as major fmcg brands, healthcare, the environmental sector, top advertising/direct marketing agencies, organisations in the Third Sector, and both B2B and B2C. I have an Cranfield MBA, plus a blue chip marketing/agency career background (P&G, Ernst & Young, Rapp, M&C Saatchi).

Using this strong platform, my mission now is to use my professional skills and experience to make a difference – as I’ve done at Shelter (where I was a Deputy Director); at the Carbon Trust; as an advertising planner advising organisations such as Guide Dogs, Age UK and the NSPCC; and as Head of Digital and Corporate Marketing at Guy’s and St Thomas’.

My agency career – working as a Senior Advertising Planner and then Head of Brand Planning – has taught me how to create communications that cut through. Major charity clients such as NSPCC, Cancer Research, and The National Trust have given me significant experience of individual giving acquisition / retention fundraising comms. I’ve also created new brand positionings for a range of organisations.

I have significant experience at senior management levels, including four years as Deputy Director of Communications, Policy and Campaigns at Shelter.

I’ve led major change programmes improving Digital, Social Media, Editorial and Creative services, have also led the development of digital strategy, and, in combination with others in the team, won a national award for best website.

I’m a senior manager who ‘gets’ digital, I’ve run digital teams, and been a speaker at the Digital Leaders Forum.

I’ve headed up internal communications, in a 1500 strong organisation, and also contributed to development of communications plans to a 15,000 strong membership organisation.

I understand the challenges faced by the Third Sector, particularly the pressures caused by decreased public funding in post-2008 Britain.

Most importantly, I’m passionate about marketing/communications and its ability to change society for the better. Wherever I’ve worked I’ve tried to instil the same passion in those I’ve worked with.

I currently work, but also volunteer to support Sailability, taking disabled people sailing.
