Work history

About me

With over 30 years of experience is the Corporate sector working for FTSE 100 companies I am now looking of voluntary roles where my experiences can help support an organisation. My initial career start out in Finance where I qualified as a CIMA accountant, before moving into IT, doing business analysis roles before moving into Project Management 12 years ago. I have a wide range of experience from basic bookkeeping, through business process redesign to delivering global systems implementations.

Having taken a redundancy package from my previous employee and the end of 2017 and set up my own part-time business consultancy and had spare time to consider voluntary roles that allowed me to get a better understanding of how the charity sector works, broaden my experience and network. I undertook the following voluntary roles, which I unfortunately had to relinquish when returning to full-time employment.-

  • Treasurer for The Foxton Centre, a £1m turnover charity, supporting the homeless with the opportunity to get their lives back on track.  Additionally, leading a specific project to standardise financial process and implement robust financial controls to allow more efficient use of Quickbooks, enabling delivery of more meaningful financial information to support the Chief Executive and trustees in running the Charity.
  • Finance Trustee for a £700k turnover local charity, working with the Chief Executive in planning the strategic direction for the charity, the acquisition of an additional business and recommending operational process improvements.
  • Supported a family business (turnover £1m) with standardisation and simplification of its financial business processes and optimisation of its cloud-based accounting system (Sage 50c), to allow the business additional time to work on more value-added activities.
  • Voluntary e-mentor for the Princes Trust providing one to one support to young people developing new business ideas.

I recently left full-time employment as a systems accountant at Nichols plc to support my 92 year old father and help him adapt to his new life, having recently lost his partner and selling the family home and now find I have surplus time that I would like to put to a good cause.

What am I looking for

I am happy to be considered for any role which I feel my skills and experience could support whilst giving me exposure to how the charity sector operates and assisting me in building a network closer to home.
