I can be available anytime after 6pm Mon-Fri, or weekends. With notice, I can also take the odd day off work if required.
The main skills I bring to the table are IT related - I have been working in IT for over a decade now, starting originally in an infrastructure (servers, networks, databases etc) support role, and moving quickly through solution design and project delivery, into my present role as an infrastructure architect.
This background has given me an excellent understanding not only of IT systems, and the IT department at large (I have worked closely with software delivery teams, data analysts and project management and have an excellent understanding of each of these fields), but also of how IT integrates with business, and needs to be an enabler rather than simply exist in its own right.
Having been a private contractor for 7 years, I have had the privilege of working for a wide range of organisations, both public and private - from blue chip companies like Honda and IBM, to charities such as the National Trust and government organisations like Somerset County Council and the NHS Information Centre (now NHS Digital). This breadth of experience means that I have had the opportunity to work with a range of different IT systems (excellent from a technical point of view) and also different priorities - I am keenly aware of the financial challenges that the charity and government sectors are under to try and make the most of their available budgets, and can bring plenty of skills in advising on the best use of funding in these areas.
In addition to my IT skills, I am confident preparing and delivering presentations, and advising on subjects related to my core competencies.
I don't have any previous volunteer experience, but am always keen to help wherever possible, and in any way I can - whether that's spending the weekend plugging network cables in and reinstalling laptops for staff, or advising on IT strategy to make the most of a tight budget.
I am a complete neophyte in this area, so happy to try roles until I find one that fits. I would be as happy advising at Trustee / director level as I am doing the nuts & bolts IT work for a smaller charity that needs a helping hand. I can probably offer a couple of evenings / weekend days per month at the moment, but that time could be split across multiple charities if that's most useful. Please fire offers my way, and I'll see what I can make time for!
