About me

Trusting that you will find my attached CV to be very comprehensive, in this “About Me”, I highlight aspects of my career and life which indicate my suitability for further volunteering :
I am in my 58th continuous year of working - in paid and voluntary roles - with children, young people and adults;
well-educated in various universities, I have a strong academic background, but firmly believe in, and have practised, where the educator is more of a mentor or coach, and where good pedagogy uses real life examples within the classroom, school or setting;
I have varied and extensive experience of leading and managing in teaching, lecturing, tutoring, counselling, youth and community work, sports coaching (to national level) and consultancy work – in schools, FE, clubs, hostels, churches - in Scotland, England and abroad;
over several decades, and in various countries, working with youngsters from different ethnic and gender backgrounds, disadvantaged situations, with special needs, with significant illnesses, with social problems, with mental health issues, those who are homeless, and ‘unattached’, has given me a real insight into the needs of others;
I have worked with special needs, autistic, aspergers, dyslexic and dyspraxic children throughout my career, particularly in Step Ahead.

I started in a voluntary capacity in the 1960s and want to do similarly in the 2020s.

What am I looking for

As indicated in my CV and in the above “About Me” section, I have had a lifetime of working with children and young people in education in its widest sense, recognised by the award of a MBE.

Also significant leading of adults, educators, parents and business people.

i have managed and led schools, businesses and sporting organisations with considerable success.

I am well qualified, am highly organised, articulate, and speak well in public, and have chaired, and have presented an impressive image of, organisations of which I have been involved.
