About me

I am recently retired with 35 years experience of working in the public and voluntary sector, where I have held senior management and board level positions.  I am able to work strategically and manage key stakeholder relationships for an organisation and have developed strong analytic, creative, collaborative and interpersonal skills.  Over the last 14 years I have worked with a board and chair to build a new organisation and lead a charity through a period of change. I am keen to use the skills I have gained to help an organisation achieve its mission.  I have time, enthusiasm, a good sense of humour and an active mind.

Specifically I can offer

  • The ability to stand back and take a long view  in the context of an organisation’s strategic aims and objectives
  • A calm, thoughtful approach combined with a commitment that supports and inspires staff
  • An understanding of how organisations work, of good governance including the proper management of resources and reputation
  • Team working and committee skills – I am used to working with groups that include a variety of people and am good at encouraging people’s participation, listening, bringing together different points of view, finding agreement or consensus.
  • Speaking skills – I am used to presenting in public, and to representing an organisation or point of view.

I have been a school governor, a member of NHS advisory committees and also work as a volunteer in a local adult literacy group

I have a good working knowledge of the relationship between central government and the voluntary sector, of research and evaluation and more specifically of practice and policy development in social care and health. I have a good track record of working in these sectors to use evidence and information in robust and creative ways to improve services.  Most recently I have lead programmes of work on topics such as safeguarding children and adults, mental health and well being of young people in care, the creation of resources and information about support and services for older people for example on dementia, mental capacity and home care.

What am I looking for

I am looking for a trustee role.  My work experience is in social care and health and I should also like to apply my skills different contexts.  I am interested in how organisations change and adjust to shifts in the external environment, in how organisations work with people who use their services and use knowledge and information to create their strategy.  I am interested in literacy and the arts - and their role in improving people's confidence and well being, and in women’s education and health, recently I have supported the work of a small NGO in Africa dedicated to the ending of female genital cutting.
