The Policy Centre for African Peoples (PCAP) enables people experiencing disadvantage to improve their lives through education, leadership and engagement. The charity achieves this by using a unique training model inspired by African philosophy and its website is one of the main ways that it communicates with the public. However, after moving to a new hosting site, PCAP began to experience issues and looked to a volunteer for some much needed support.
Zubeir Woozeer, PCAP’s Engagement Officer, explains, “We needed a volunteer to help us manage our website. After the move, it was very complicated to get tasks completed. We wanted a volunteer to help us update the different pages on our website and to fix certain tech and web issues that we were experiencing. So we turned to Reach Volunteering”.
This is where Sonny Hawkins came in. With so many digital skills, Sonny was a sought after volunteer on the Reach platform. However, as Sonny says, “When I saw they were in a bad spot with their website, it looked like a simple fix for me and I was glad to help a worthwhile cause”.
It proved to be an excellent match. Sonny is loving volunteering at PCAP, “It’s been a pleasure working with Sylvie and Zu. They trusted me to work remotely and I’m currently developing the site to make it more user friendly. I hope I’ll leave them in a better place with the tools to manage things on their own”.
