Youth Vision works with young people from South West Edinburgh that are struggling in formal education, or are excluded from school and are not engaged in training or employment.
Our mission is to provide nature based learning experiences that support healthy transitions to adulthood. We do this learning from nature, valuing the important part that nature has to play in improving wellbeing. Through providing informal education, working with small groups of young people, they learn new skills, build friendships and grow in responsibility. Our ambition is to work with young people to support them to get back on track and re-engage with the education system or grow skills to transition into college or employment.
As well as working with these teenage groups, we introduce younger ages to gardening and outdoor learning, through forest skills and similar programmes. Many of our teenagers continue to receive support and counselling beyond their structured programme, with some continuing to volunteer as young leaders, building their knowledge and skills in the process.
through these activities, we seek to deliver positive outcomes for the young people we work with. Many will achieve their first real feelings of success, gaining recognition for their achievements, whilst others will go on to gain their John Muir Award.
Structured activities tack place with various groups covering:
Each of these has its own purpose ranging from informal activity, to short 6 week programmes and on to intensive one-year support for harder to engage younger people. All are based around programmes of outdoor learning based at our steading in the Pentalnd Hills on the outskirts of Edinburgh.
As well as these we provide community gardening activities, community workshops and corporate development days.
