Objectives

There is a Youth Justice team for all local authorities throughout England and Wales. The purpose of the Youth Justice team is to work with children, from 10 years up to 17 years, who get into trouble with the law.  A team of multi-agency professionals  from the local authority, the police, social services, probation (statutory partners) and other partners such as health and careers wales, work with children who get into trouble with the police or are arrested; are charged with a crime and go to court or are convicted of a crime and are given a sentence.  The police refer young people to Youth Justice plus family and friends who are worried about a young persons behaviour.  

Activities

Professional volunteers act as appropriate adults in custody to safeguard their welfare, facilitate communication and uphold the Police and Evidence Act 1984, Code C guidelines

Professional volunteers act as Bureau and/or Panel members, to broker a contract addressing a young person's welfare and offending behaviour.
