Our vision is a world where brain tumours are cured.
Our mission is to support patients and their loved ones through the devastation a primary brain tumour diagnosis can bring, making sure they have someone to turn to at any stage of their journey, whilst funding innovative research across Yorkshire to find better treatments, faster diagnosis and ultimately, a cure.
Our support:
We offer support to low and high grade brain tumour patients, their loved one and carers of all ages, for as long as they need us.
This includes: Emotional support, like our support line, counselling and support groups
Practical support, referring to other services and information and supporting with benefits applications
Financial support, we have patient grants to help those facing financial hardship, to reduce social isolation or to make a special wish come true. We also fund bridging grants for parents when a child is an inpatient. Alongside this, we support the hospitals across Yorkshire, the clinical nurse specialist teams and provide craft and play items for the childrens wards.
Our research:
We fund world class research taking place right here in Yorkshire, presently we are funding projects in Leeds, Sheffield and Hull.
We are not a large charity and we have to spend every penny we have wisely. Our focus is on seed funding (often called pump priming) research that is at the start of a new concept or idea. Researchers need to show that they have a valid idea, providing a proof of concept, before they access the big amounts of money from the national organisations and often they struggle to get this work funded. We make a real difference by enabling them to undertake this research. A great example of this is a new study that we are funding called Gliomodel. This involves researchers across the North of the country coming together to share their research models so that theories can be tested in multiple ways, across a number of labs. The group potentially have £10m they can access from a national charity but they have to show the process of collaboration will work before they will be granted any money. We are funding that proof work to make it happen.
We provide life changing support, including, 1-21 counselling, wellbeing walks, support groups and financial grants (including bridging grants for families of children awaiting a diagnosis). We fund critical research right here in Yorkshire, focusing on seed funding or pump priming.
