Parc yr Esgob, located in Abergwili, Carmarthenshire, provides a rare mix of cultural heritage and natural beauty, offering a unique blend of recreation, education and conservation. Managed by the Tywi Gateway Trust, established to preserve, interpret, and enhance the site's significant historical, architectural, and ecological assets, the site covers several acres around the ancient palace of the Bishops of St Davids which now houses the county museum.
The park offers local communities, and visitors from further afield, the opportunity to explore beautiful landscaped gardens, parkland and views across the Tywi valley, discover fascinating wildlife and history, and enjoy the well-being benefits of being outdoors in nature. A range of volunteering opportunities are available at the site, and community engagement activities aimed at encouraging participation by diverse groups are organised. Following the initial restoration phase, which saw the park and gardens restored from their neglected state, together with the renovation of derelict outbuildings to create a visitor centre with café, the Trust is embarking on an ambitious project to restore the walled garden and deliver a wider range of engagement and activity.
