YMCA Northumberland is an independent, local charity, based in Ashington by working in other communities in the county.
While the current iteration of the organisation was established in 1998, out Ashington site has been home to YMCA in form for around 130 years and is known to multiple generations of residents. We work with children and young people, to create an environment in which they can BELONG, CONTRIBUTE and THRIVE.
Our core provision is mainly aimed at those aged 12-18 years, living in around Ashington, and includes:
Youth Drop Ins – running four evenings each week, and open to all young people from across the county. Delivered by our experienced youth team, the drop-ins offer is youth-led but supervised actively, and provide a wide range of resources and support.
Weekly Detached Sessions in Ashington’s outdoor spaces, targeting locations where young people regularly gather, or which are hotspots for anti-social behaviour.
Alongside this core work we also run project or geographically-based activities, focussing on specific issues or communities.
