Objectives

In the heart of the city, YMCA Cardiff is a beacon of hope, dedicated to transforming lives. Our mission is simple, yet profound: to reach those in need and provide them with a helping hand, a safe place, and a sense of belonging. We're here for young people, our community and those at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

Our services are tailored to the unique challenges being faced by our beneficiaries and include supported housing and projects aimed at breaking the cycle of revolving door homelessness as well as dedicated youth programmes such as young carers projects, healthy relationship programmes, mentoring and youth clubs.

At YMCA Cardiff, our work yields life-changing impacts. We empower young people to overcome adversity, instilling in them the skills and confidence to thrive whilst our housing support provides a secure foundation for those facing homelessness, enabling them to rebuild their lives.

Join us in our mission to create lasting, meaningful change in Cardiff. Join our Board of Trustees, and together, we can provide hope, opportunity, and a brighter future for our beneficiaries and our community.

Activities

We pursue our objectives through a series of projects and services designed around the specific needs of our beneficiaries.

  • Youth Clubs: A safe and inclusive environment for young people to develop healthy relationships, skills and confidence through holistic support for physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs.
  • Y-Mentoring: Creating meaningful mentoring opportunities for volunteers through mentorship for young men and women referred to the program. Beneficiaries and volunteers develop social capital through 1-2-1 sessions and group activities and address challenges in relationships, consent, societal expectations, and mental health.
  • Young Carers: Provides support for carers up to the age of 25 in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan and delivers new opportunities, skill development, and respite activities. The project boosts self-esteem, resilience, and skill building for service users.
  • Employment, Education, and Training (EET): Helping to boost practical, academic, and soft skills. The project connects service users with training, work experience, and employment opportunities and focusses on community integration and social activities to reshape the narrative around homelessness and promote positive outcomes.
  • Housing Services: We operate 2 hostels and manage a catalogue of other properties which are used to support people at risk of homelessness into long term housing solutions with a focus on regaining independence, fostering new beginnings and equipping service users with the means to thrive.
