Geographical remit:

Bolton YMCA is an inclusive, youth led community based movement welcoming all members of society, seeking to “...transform communities so that all young people truly belong, contribute and thrive, regardless of their past experiences or present social circumstances”

We seek to empower young people (5 to 25 years), from the most impoverished and disadvantaged neighbourhoods of Bolton, by giving them a voice and a role; helping them to develop positive life skills; to build resilience; to recognise their potential and to support their aspirations.

We manage a range of facilities in our community centre, including function rooms, training and recreation facilities, a wrestling club, a community gym and a basement youth cafe. BYMCA have a strong partnership with local church communities across Bolton, whose like minded aim is to work with young people and challenge behaviour which could place them at risk in the community.

BYMCA is specifically committed to help young people to build resilience and to support their aspirations by developing self-esteem and encouraging self-belief. We work with over 1,200 young people each year through youth work, by encouraging participation in educational and community based activities, and in our town centre basement Youth Cafe.

We seek to engage with hard to reach young people within the most disadvantaged communities to reduce their isolation by encouraging access our youth provision, through which they are able to develop positive peer support and influences.
We have developed strong partnerships with several voluntary/community based organisations that share our premises, including a mental health charity, multi-cultural groups; local anti-poverty action team; and are currently looking to build similar links with several other community partners to support our other objectives, which include reaching young people who are at risk of exploitation

All services are offered free of charge as we specifically seek to engage with young people for whom financial cost may be a barrier.
