Wycombe Refugee Partnership is a multi-cultural, multi-faith organisation staffed by volunteers who provide support to refugees and asylum-seekers in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
We accommodate a refugee family in our halfway house, help them to register with a GP, a dentist and local schools and to apply for Universal Credit. We then help them apply for jobs and, once they are in work, to find a private rental property, for which we gift them the deposit. We help them to enrol for English classes and provide one-to-one tuition when appropriate. Since the start of the pandemic, we have also been running a Community Response programme, providing support for asylum-seekers in High Wycombe, giving them supermarket vouchers and a range of material goods and support, including laptops, tablets, broadband, furniture and clothes. We give grants to enable the children and young people to access sports activities which they could not otherwise afford and arrange a rota of volunteer drivers for them. Perhaps the most valuable thing we give people is the sense that someone cares.
