Objectives

We provide advice, support and advocacy services for African-Caribbean kidney disease and transplant patients and their families in areas like healthcare, social services, justice, employment, etc. We also work with the NHS Blood and Transplant campaigning for organ and blood donation in the African-Caribbean community whilst forging relationships with other community charities and groups.

Activities

Patients are referred to us in different ways, referral by the hospital, self-referral or referral by a friend or family member. We actively support all African-Caribbean patients who are referred to us, get an understanding of what the problem is, discuss strategy with the rest of the trustees and plan a line of action, which we follow through to the end, whilst maintaining confidentiality.

We also work closely with the NHS Blood and Transplant to raise awareness about organ donation and explore innovative ways to create awareness and encourage the African-Caribbean community to become donors, educating people online as well on different renal issues. Our online sessions are very popular and we put on different topics affecting renal patients and their families to help them understand the disease and how they can manage themselves.

We invite different professionals like renal physicians and consultants, business and workplace professionals to talk about issues that most of our service users might face in the workplace or elsewhere.
