We are trying to change the way that people engage with woodlands, trees and timber. We believe that we are genuinely embracing new thinking and creating innovative ways to develop the woodland sector and resource the people struggling within it. Our strategic focus is in 4 areas: Social Forestry (getting people back into the woods); Production (empowering woods-people and re-establishing local timber processing chains); Ecology (managing and creating woodlands for biodiversity); and Education (training and facilitating others to do these things).
We’re currently running various initiatives. We’ve developed a unique venue in the woods on the Dartington Estate to engage people, revive woodland culture, increase well-being and to create woodland-based livelihoods (without needing to cut down trees). It has to date hosted around 2500 people and currently employs 2. We’ve also planted thousands of trees and wildflowers through our community group ‘Special Branch’ (our 80 volunteers) and this year we’re planning on building a tree nursery to grow 20,000 trees per year and plant them into community owned land.
