Objectives

Our services are free to any woman or child, regardless of race, culture or religion who is facing barriers, problems  or challenges. We help reduce isolation, relieve distress and poverty, promote the confidence, skills of women and help facilitate social integration particularly asylum/refugee seekers, newly arrived or black & minority ethnic communities. Last year, a total of 1537 women (out of 1838 enquiries made) received a service from The Women & Families Resource Centre (WFRC). Of these service users, 763 received an individual service and 804 attended groups, workshops and events facilitated by the organization. Some service users initially referred for befriending were later referred to other services such as domestic violence support, counselling and other support groups and workshops. 659 women received support through the befriending service

Our centre is surrounded by four very deprived areas- Park Village, Heath Town, Low hill and Bushbury. Many of the women & families referred to us face poverty and multiple problems such as domestic violence, rape, sexual abuse, female genital mutilation, honour-based violence, mental health problems, immigration issues, unemployment, debts and homelessness. No two women or families are ever the same. The only thing they have in common are usually feelings of despair, hopelessness, fear, distress or some even feel suicidal. Most of them are in dire need of support with the current situation that is fuelled with so much anxiety and uncertainty.
