Objectives

The objective of the charity, as laid down in its Constitution, is the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation in particular by the provision of facilities for gymnastics. 

The significant activities of the Club are: provision of classes and training sessions for members to undertake gymnastics activities; coaching and training of gymnasts; participa-tion in competitions and events; promotion of well-being through gymnastics in the local community.

The Club also provides a range of activities that deliver benefit to a wider section of the public in the community.

Activities

Woking Gymnastics Club (registered charity no 1152822) was one of the first to be opened in its own, purpose-built facility some 34 years ago.  We now cater to over 1,600 members every week including the following:

  • Elite Men’s Artistic Gymnastics with 32 gymnasts, including 1 member of Top Squad & the current U16 British All Around Champion, 1 member of National Squad
  • Elite Women’s Artistic Gymnastics with 20 gymnasts
  • Pre-school:  280 gymnasts with 21 classes
  • Playgym: 5 daily sessions with over 600 attendees in February 2016
  • Recreational gymnastics:  668 gymnasts in weekday sessions and a further 93 on Saturdays across 27 classes a week and running at 90% if capacity.  Saturday group are regular participants in regional Team competitions
  • We also run regular Adult sessions on a pay-as-you-go basis.

In addition, WGC is developing new programmes in the local community, including:

  • Regional Disabilities Gymnastics hub club providing gymnastics training, staff training, drop-in classes, taster days and specific events for local community organisations
  • Our Leadership Academy has developed 27 young leaders in the last year
  • Monthly and term-time classes at SureStart centres and at nine local schools
  • Expanding our Gymnastics for All disciplines including Freestyle and satellite facilities at a local school
  • Providing support and facilities to other sports-groups including Dance Woking and a group of cheerleaders competing in international competitions
  • Promotional events at local community events.

The Club was recently awarded Woking Sports Club of the Year, Surrey Sports Club of the Year and nominated as National Club of the Year at the BG National Awards Dinner.
